Report Back: Workshop with the Voortrekker Monument
Date: 10 October 2025
Time: 09:00
Venue: Voortrekker Monument
On 10 October 2025, IPTGSA held a workshop meeting with the management of the Voortrekker Monument to discuss logistical challenges faced by guides when bringing groups to the site.
The main topics included bus movement, drop-off points, parking arrangements, and payment systems. This was an important discussion, as many large groups visit the Monument with limited time available, making quick and efficient access essential.
The Voortrekker Monument management engaged constructively and acknowledged the concerns raised by guides. They explained that the Monument currently applies three different parking and payment systems depending on the type and scale of events:
- Small events: payment made at reception and separate parking provided
- Large events: different access system. Payments made at Monument entrance and separate parking provided
- Other general visits: Standard parking arrangements apply.
Management committed to reviewing these systems, streamlining processes, and making clear information available on their official website to assist guides in planning. Importantly, the Monument also confirmed that these arrangements will be maintained consistently for the next year to ensure clarity and reliability for guides and operators.
The meeting was highly productive, and IPTGSA appreciates the openness of the Voortrekker Monument in working with guides to find practical solutions that improve visitor experience.
