Guides for Guides

Membership to the Institute of Professional Tourist Guides of Southern Africa (IPTGSA) is a professional designation to strive to with hard work and dedication. Professional status is not just handed to a certain few ,but earned by any tourist guide that has made guiding his/her profession

Definition of Professional: "Person formally certified by a registered professional body of belonging to a specific profession by  virtue of having completed a required course of studies and/or practice. And whose competence can usually be measured  against an established set of standards."

Place Name Origin

  • Ulundi (Mahlabathini)
    Kwa-Zulu Natal
    Establish:
    1873
    Municipality:

When Cetshwayo became king of the Zulus on 1 September 1873, he created, as was customary, a new capital for the nation, naming it "Ulundi" ("The high place"). On 4 July 1879, in the Battle of Ulundi (the final battle of the Anglo-Zulu War), the British Army captured the royal kraal and razed it to the ground.
In 1980 Ulundi was designated capital of the nonindependent black state of KwaZulu. In 1994 the new province of KwaZulu-Natal was created out of KwaZulu and the former province of Natal. Ulundi was the capital of the new province from 1994 (co-capital status, 1994–95) until 2004 when it was replaced by Pietermaritzburg.

Vrederfort
Many tour operators and guides are curious about the Vredefort Dome but have never had the opportunity to have it explained by a professional colleague with a knowledge of the area.
